Just recently the United Kingdom experienced one of the most spectacular events any nation could ever cherish, by being the host to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. Previously this year, we also celebrated the Queen’s Golden jubilee; Jamaica celebrated their 50th year of Independence from colonial rule, and not forgetting, 01 August was commemorated for the day of Emancipation from Slavery.
What a year this has been so far…, nations came to together at the Olympics to see their athletes in action! I would like to encourage you to reflect on your past years of achievement/s. So often, we reflect on past mistakes – like, ‘what could have been ……..’, ‘what if I had done this’, or ‘what if I had not taken so long to do that’. But let us travel another route – let’s take the route of celebration, especially to celebrate other people’s achievements… taking yourself out of the picture for a while. This is another way to help esteem others rather than ourselves… to be unselfish, to take the attention away from ourselves and positively promote others.
